Why Community Matters — and Why I’m Excited for EDF Connect

As a caregiver, I’ve learned that connection isn’t just comforting—it’s essential. Whether we’re trying to navigate the VA, supporting our service members through medical transitions, or simply remember to care for ourselves, it helps to know we’re not alone.

I understand firsthand how easily we, as caregivers, can become isolated—so focused on helping our care recipients that we forget our own need for connection. No one should be an island. It truly takes a village, and connecting and networking with others is a lifeline while navigating this uncertain path. Hearing from others who have already walked it—through a vetted online community where every caregiver belongs—is invaluable.

Over the years, I’ve seen how online communities created for military caregivers have become safe spaces where we share experiences, seek advice, and find encouragement. Those networks have been vital in bringing caregivers together—and EDF Connect builds on that same spirit, offering valuable insights, information, and access to trusted resources.

As a former moderator of one of those communities and an EDF Alumna, I’ve seen firsthand how online connection can dissolve isolation. I’ve watched caregivers exchange advice, uplift one another through difficult days, and remind each other of their strength. That’s the kind of connection EDF Connect fosters—authentic, informed, and empowering.

And in a world where many caregivers are navigating uncertainty—whether from changing benefits or financial strain—being part of a community that connects you to reliable resources, advocacy, and peers is more important than ever. EDF Connect brings that all together in one place.

So Why Join EDF Connect Too?

Many caregivers are already active in other online networks—and that’s something to celebrate. EDF Connect isn’t meant to replace those spaces; it’s meant to enhance and expand how we connect.

Here’s what makes EDF Connect special:

  • It connects you directly with EDF programs and resources.
Connecting with EDF Connect means connecting to the source—the organization that first brought America’s military caregivers into focus. The Elizabeth Dole Foundation led the original research that defined who we are as caregivers and what we need to thrive. EDF has remained on the front line of advocacy, awareness, and policy ever since. When you join EDF Connect, you’re not just joining a platform—you’re joining the very community that helped shape how our nation understands and supports caregivers today.
  • It’s a trusted, private, and caregiver-vetted community.
Every EDF Connect member is verified, creating a safe, understanding space where you can share freely among those who truly “get it.” The platform ensures content remains positive, mission-aligned, and focused on connection.
  • It’s built by caregivers, for caregivers.
EDF Connect was developed based on input from Dole Fellows, alumni, and caregivers who wanted one central home for support, education, and empowerment.
  • It’s more than information—it’s transformation.
From curated subgroups on navigating the VA and DoD to wellness, employment, and retreats, EDF Connect encourages meaningful conversations that strengthen caregivers and their families.

Joining the Journey

I’m honored to serve with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation to help caregivers explore this new platform and discover how connection leads to empowerment. Whether you’re looking for information, community, or inspiration, EDF Connect is a safe and trusted space for all of us who give care every day.

Because when caregivers are connected, we’re never alone.

If you’re a caregiver looking for connection, encouragement, or simply a space where others truly understand, I invite you to join us on EDF Connect. Together, we can continue building the kind of community every caregiver deserves.
